Self-portraits
In 1995, Alam created a participatory installation in which visitors were invited to sit in an armchair facing a television screen displaying their own image. They were asked to say “stop” at the exact moment they found themselves beautiful. At that moment, Alam photographed the screen using a Polaroid camera.
The series 1995 examines self-perception, the authority of the gaze and the act of aesthetic validation, capturing a suspended moment between control, vulnerability and self-awareness.
